Madrid (Feb 6) – Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui narrowly missed out on the world indoor 1000m record at the World Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Madrid on Friday but set a European record and the third-fastest time in history indoors, clocking 2:14.52. Djibouti’s Ayanleh Souleiman’s long-standing world mark of 2:14.20 survived by a fraction.
Ethiopia’s Birke Haylom extended her unbeaten run in 2026 with victory in the women’s 1500m (4:02.37), while Italy’s Nadia Battocletti equalled the Italian indoor record in second (4:03.59) in her first race at the distance indoors for five years. Swiss runner Audrey Werro took the women’s 800m in 2:00.68 and Lieke Klaver of the Netherlands won the 400m in 51.26.
Enrique Llopis delighted the home crowd with victory in the men’s 60m hurdles, setting a Spanish record in 7.45.
