Doris Lemngole Breaks Collegiate 3000m Record With 8:31.39 At Millrose Game; Jane Hedengren Also Inside Old Mark

Alabama’s Doris Lemngole breaks collegiate 3,000-meter record with 8:31.39 win at the Millrose Games, leading a world-class field in New York.

NEW YORK (Feb. 1) — Alabama’s Doris Lemngole broke the collegiate record Sunday in the women’s 3,000 meters, winning the Burgess Family Foundation race at the 2026 Millrose Games with a blazing 8 minutes, 31.39 seconds at The Armory. Brigham Young freshman sensation Jane Hedengren was also inside the previous collegiate mark when finishing third.

Lemngole, a junior from Kenya, surged to the front in the closing 200 meters to overtake the field and finish more than four seconds under the previous NCAA record of 8:35.20, set by NC State’s Katelyn Tuohy in 2023. The time also shattered the Alabama school record and improved Lemngole’s indoor best by more than 10 seconds.

Britain’s Hannah Nuttall, racing for New Balance, took second in 8:32.94. Brigham Young freshman Jane Hedengren finished third in 8:34.98, also running inside Tuohy’s former collegiate mark. Lexy Halladay-Lowry of Nike Swoosh Track Club was fourth in 8:38.78, a personal best, followed by Australia’s Lauren Ryan of Under Armour in 8:41.97.

The victory capped a standout start to Lemngole’s indoor season, coming just one week after she set a new Alabama record in the women’s mile (4:32.69) at the Orange and Purple Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina.

The Millrose Games is part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold events, and it once again featured several Olympians, national champions, as well as rising high school and collegiate stars.
