The 33-year-old Jamaican, who last raced at the USATF NYC Grand Prix in Randall’s Island in June 2024, is returning from a series of injury setbacks. The two-time Olympic sprint double champion from Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021 aims to build form gradually as she works toward full fitness.
In the men’s events, world 100m champion Oblique Seville opened his season over 400m, posting a personal best of 46.98 seconds for third in his heat. Dominica’s Dennick Luke won the section in 46.23, also a personal best, ahead of Tyrece Hyman, who ran 46.56. Seville’s effort improved on his previous lifetime best of 47.04, set last February.
World 400m champion Antonio Watson, training alongside Seville at the Racers Track Club under coach Glen Mills, clocked 45.11 seconds to win his section and top the overall standings. The performance was his fastest-ever season opener and his ninth-fastest career time. Fellow Racers athletes Raheem Hayles and Tahj-Marques White also impressed, running 45.63 and 45.59 respectively — both personal bests.
In the men’s 60m, world 200m bronze medalist Bryan Levell took victory in 6.56 seconds, beating former world under-20 silver medalist in the 100m, Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, and Rasheed Asad Foster, who shared second in 6.62.
