WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina, Feb 22 (Reuters) – Katelyn Tuohy delivered a commanding performance to shatter the women’s mile meet record at the ASICS Last Chance Invite at JDL Fast Track on Saturday (21), clocking 4:32.39 to erase a mark that had stood for nearly a decade.
Tuohy, competing under the Adidas banner, eclipsed the previous meet record of 4:36.10 set by Grace Barnett in 2017, in a collegiate athlete-stacked field where every entrant in the seeded heat carried a personal best of 4:50 or faster. Fellow Adidas professional Elena (Elly) Henes finished a clear second in 4:35.38, also dipping beneath the old standard.

The race was set up for fast times from the outset, with pacemaker Brooke Rauber leading a small front group through the early laps before stepping aside, leaving Tuohy to control proceedings. The former NC State star passed halfway at 2:47.06 and maintained a determined and controlled pace per lap the rest of the way.
Behind the two Adidas professionals, North Carolina freshman Kinley Wolfe was the top collegiate finisher in third place with a time of 4:47.00, ahead of Tar Heel teammate Julia Scrudato in fourth at 4:48.28. Wake Forest placed three athletes in the top eight, with Mia Williams fifth in 4:49.73, Isabelle Goldstein sixth in 4:50.60, and Victoria Rodriguez eighth in 4:50.88. NC State’s Justine Preisano rounded out the top seven in 4:50.65.
Meanwhile, Hannah Ballowe won the women’s 800m with a time of 2:04.12, breaking the previous meet record of 2:05.22, set by Gabija Galvydyte of Oklahoma State in 2022.
