Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui is among the home favorites, and he headlines the men’s track card as he targets Djibouti’s Ayanleh Souleiman’s 1000-meter world indoor record of 2:14.20, set in 2016. Attaoui, who clocked 2:12.25 outdoors last season and ranks just outside the top 10 runners over the 800m in history, has already impressed indoors this year with a season best of 1:44.98 for the 800m and 3:35.65 over the 1500m.

In the women’s 400m, Dutch star and world indoor silver medallist Lieke Klaver opens her season against Spain’s Paula Sevilla and Blanca Hervás, promising a tightly contested sprint duel. The women’s 1500m features Ethiopia’s Birke Haylom, Italy’s Nadia Battocletti, and Spain’s Marta García — each with recent global podium credentials.
The women’s 800m features Switzerland’s Audrey Werro, and she will be aiming for another fast time after she posted a national record of 1:57.49 to set the No. 10 best time on the all-time indoor list.
Elsewhere, Jamaican Olympic bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell leads the men’s shot put field, returning to the same venue where he set his indoor best of 22.16m two years ago. He faces Mexico’s world silver medallist Uziel Muñoz and American Jordan Geist, keeping the competition for top billing wide open.
