Nordhausen, Germany (Jan 31) – Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye of Germany outthrew two-time world champion Chase Jackson of the United States to win the International Nordhausen Indoor Shot Put, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger event, on Saturday evening.
The 2024 Tokyo Olympic gold medallist and World Indoor silver medalist extended her dominant early-season form with her second winter victory, setting a meeting record and season’s best of 19.86 meters on her fifth attempt. – Read Also: Watch LIVE! – 2026 Millrose Games Live Stream, Results and Updates
Ogunleye, 27, opened with 19.75m, then followed with 19.13m, 19.49m, and finally her winning throw — the fourth-best of her career. “It gave me so much in my development, showing we’re on the right track,” Ogunleye told Leichtathletik.de. “That atmosphere and focus make Nordhausen special, and that’s why I love coming back.”
She secured the Nordhausen Indoor title for the third successive year, underlining her consistency.

Experienced Portuguese thrower Auriol Dongmo, the two-time European indoor champion and 2022 World Indoor gold medalist, placed second with a measure of 19.02m, while American Chase Jackson, unable to find rhythm in the ring, struggled to exceed the 19m mark and had to settle for third with 18.94m.
Germany’s Katharina Maisch, a 2019 European U23 silver medalist, placed fourth with 18.49m, followed by American Jessica Ramsey (18.48m), the 2019 Pan American Games bronze medalist.
Further down the standings, Abby Moore (17.36m), Julia Ritter (17.32m), and the Netherlands’ Jorinde van Klinken (17.05m) completed the top eight.
In the men’s competition, Italy’s Zane Weir captured his third Nordhausen title, leading an Italian 1–3 finish. The 2023 European Indoor champion threw 20.56m on his first attempt but withdrew soon after with a reported injury, and none of his challengers were able to surpass his effort.
Christopher Licata of the United States finished second with a measure of 20.44m, while Nick Ponzio of Italy claimed third with 20.31m. Germany’s Xaver Hastenrath, the 2023 World University Games bronze medalist, achieved a personal best of 19.60m for fourth.
