STATEN ISLAND, New York (March 1 ) — Chase Jackson broke her own U.S. indoor record to claim the women’s shot put title at the USATF Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, reaffirming her dominance ahead of the world indoor season.
The two-time world champion launched the shot 20.44 meters in the fifth round at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, extending her previous mark by 20 centimeters. The throw — equal to 67 feet, 0¾ inches — improved on her 2025 indoor record of 20.24m and marked her season’s first effort beyond 20 meters.

After fouling her opening attempt, the 31-year-old quickly regrouped with 18.75m in round two, then inched ahead with 19.10m and 19.27m before unleashing her record-breaking fifth throw. It secured her fourth consecutive U.S. indoor title and sixth overall.
Abria Smith, the World University Games silver medalist, claimed silver with a lifetime best of 19.23m, surpassing the World Athletics Indoor qualifying standard of 18.90m, while Jaida Ross took bronze at 18.43m. Jessica Woodard (17.99m) and Makayla Hunter (17.55m) completed the top five.
Jackson, already the national record holder indoors and outdoors, continues to build momentum as one of the world’s top-ranked shot putters heading into next month’s World Indoor Championships. The American currently sits second in the World Athletics top list behind Dutch world champion Jessica Schilder, who has a world lead of 20.49m.
