The 2026 USATF Half Marathon Championships results in Atlanta, with Wesley Kiptoo and Molly Born winning as chaos marked the women’s finish after a course mix-up.

ATLANTA (March 3) — Wesley Kiptoo and Molly Born claimed national titles at the 2026 USATF Half Marathon Championships on Sunday, held as part of the Publix Marathon Race Weekend in Atlanta, with Born’s victory coming amid confusion in the women’s race after multiple contenders went off course.

Kiptoo, a former NCAA indoor 5000m champion while at Iowa State, surged clear in the closing stages to cross the line in 1 hour, 1 minute, 15 seconds. The Kenyan-born American 26-year-old defeated two-time Olympian Hillary Bor, who clocked 1:01:30, while Ahmed Muhumed of HOKA NAZ Elite completed the podium in 1:01:51.

Briton Charles Hicks, the 2023 European U23 5000m champion and 2022 NCAA cross country winner, placed fourth in 1:02:10 in a strong domestic and international field.

The women’s race turned chaotic near mile 12 when lead runners Jess McClain, Anna Grace Hurley, and Ednah Kurgat inadvertently veered off course after the lead vehicle left the route. Born, the reigning U.S. marathon champion, avoided the miscue to take the crown in 1:09:43. She held off Carrie Verdon (1:09:47) and Annie Rodenfels (1:10:12) as officials confirmed the results following the confusion.

The event, organized by the Atlanta Track Club, served as part of the World Athletics Label Road Race series and national championship calendar for USA Track & Field.
