KINGSTON, Jamaica (March 21) — Several of Jamaica’s top track and field stars, including Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah, are set to compete at Velocity Fest 18 at the National Stadium in Kingston on Saturday.

Velocity Fest has grown into one of the premier domestic meets on the Jamaican athletics calendar, regularly attracting elite talent, and this year’s edition continues that trend with a strong lineup across sprint and hurdles events.

Two-time world 200m champion Shericka Jackson will open her individual campaign for the season in the women’s 400m. The 31-year-old returns to competition after dealing with injuries in 2025 and will be looking to deliver an encouraging early-season performance.
Jackson faces a competitive field that includes Bahamian former sprint double champion Anthonique Strachan, as well as Jamaican 400m hurdlers Rushell Clayton, Andrenette Knight, and Shiann Rashana Salmon.
Meanwhile, double Olympic sprint double champion Elaine Thompson-Herah is set to contest the women’s 200m, where she will line up against a mix of sprinters and hurdlers, including Ackera Nugent and Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan. Jamaican twins Tina Clayton and Tia Clayton are also entered in the event, adding further depth to the field.
The meet will also feature several notable male athletes, including rising Jamaican sprinter Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, Kadrian Goldson, Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes, quarter-miler Roshawn Clarke, Christopher Taylor, and Olympic hurdles champion Hansle Parchment.
With a blend of established champions and emerging talent, Velocity Fest 18 is expected to provide an early indication of form ahead of the international season.
