ROME (March 14) – Italy will send a 26-strong team to the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze, with long jumper Mattia Furlani and sprinter Zaynab Dosso leading a lineup that blends established global medalists with rising teenage talent.
Furlani, the reigning indoor and outdoor world champion, headlines the men’s field contingent. The 21-year-old maintained an unbeaten run through the early season and matched his best indoor mark of 8.39 meters, reinforcing his status as one of Europe’s standout jumpers. He will be joined by Olympic finalist Larissa Iapichino, who defends her European indoor long jump crown and seeks her first global medal.

Shot putter Leonardo Fabbri, who set a world-leading mark of 22.50 meters this winter, enters as one of Italy’s strongest medal prospects. In the triple jump, Andy Diaz Hernandez returns to defend the world title he won two years ago, while Andrea Dallavalle joins him to complete a powerful field-event lineup.
On the track, Dosso heads to Poland ranked joint first in the world over 60 meters after clocking 6.99 seconds this season. The world indoor silver medalist is among the event’s top contenders. She will line up alongside 16-year-old Kelly AM Doualla, the European U20 champion, who becomes the youngest athlete in the championships.
Distance runner Nadia Battocletti, an Olympic and world silver medalist over 10,000 meters, steps indoors for the first time at world level. The 25-year-old broke the Italian 3,000-meter record in February with 8:26.44 in Liévin, and she will be hoping to maintain that strong form ahead of her world indoor championships debut.
European Indoor 2023 champion Samuele Ceccarelli will contest the men’s 60m, along with Filippo Randazzo.
