AMSTERDAM (March 11) – Three European indoor champions headline the 23-member Dutch squad selected for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland, later this month, where the team will compete without leading sprinter Femke Bol.
Bol, the 400 metres world indoor record holder, ended her short indoor season early due to a tendon problem in her foot. Her absence leaves Jessica Schilder, Lieke Klaver and Samuel Chapple among the main medal hopes for the Netherlands from March 20 to 22.

World and European outdoor champion Schilder leads the global shot put rankings this season with a throw of 20.69 metres – the same mark that secured her the European indoor title in Apeldoorn last year.
Klaver, who took 400m silver behind Bol at the 2024 World Indoors in Glasgow, will contest both the individual 400m and the 4x400m relay in Torun, while Chapple moves up in distance to race the 1500m after breaking the Dutch indoor record last month with 3:32.68 at the Copernicus Cup.
Olympic finalist Stefan Nillessen joins Chapple in the 1500m, while hurdler Nadine Visser, who captured the European indoor 60m hurdles crown in Torun in 2021, returns to familiar ground. Multi-eventer Sofie Dokter, the European indoor pentathlon silver medallist, also features on the women’s roster.
The Dutch team produced its best-ever indoor performance last year in Glasgow, finishing fourth in the medal standings with five podium finishes.
Competition in Poland begins on March 20 with the heptathlon 60m and concludes on March 22 with the 4x400m relays.
