STATEN ISLAND, New York (March 1) — NCAA champion Jordan Anthony stunned Olympic champion and training partner Noah Lyles to win the men’s 60 meters on day two of the 2026 USATF Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Sunday.
After cruising into the final with a time of 6.51 seconds, Anthony returned just over an hour and a half later to claim victory in a swift 6.45 seconds, securing his place at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland later this month.
“The start of my season, I didn’t have two good races,” Anthony said in his post-race interview on NBC Sports. “I needed a little bit of humbling to remember who I am, that dog mentality. Those two races did a lot to me. Everybody said I fell off. I was trying to find out where I was.”
Trayvon Bromell, the 2016 world indoor champion, clocked a season-best 6.47 seconds to finish second behind Anthony after posting the fastest time in qualifying at 6.49. Lyles started slow and couldn’t catch the leading duo, finishing third in 6.51 seconds. The Olympic champion wasn’t planning to compete at the World Indoors in Kujawy Pomorze because it is too close to his April wedding.

In the women’s 60 meters, Jacious Sears dominated the field, stopping the clock at 7.04 seconds. High school twins Mia Maxwell and Mariah Maxwell completed the podium, finishing second and third with times of 7.13 and 7.14, respectively.
Nikki Hiltz powered home in 4:11.34 to win the women’s 1500 meters, narrowly beating Gracie Morris (4:11.39), Lindsey Butler (4:11.52), and Sinclaire Johnson (4:11.59).
In the men’s 1500 meters, Nathan Green produced a surprise victory in a personal best of 3:37.65, edging Luke Houser, who clocked 3:37.67. Olympic champion Cole Hocker missed out on a 1500m–3000m double after being boxed in late and finishing fifth in 3:38.08. Olympic bronze medalist Yared Nuguse placed fourth in 3:38.06.
Teenage standout Cooper Lutkenhaus captured the men’s 800m title in 1:46.68, while Addison Wiley ran a personal best of 1:59.43 to edge Valery Tobias Brooks (1:59.77) and take the women’s crown.
“Going to Tokyo and just not going the way I wanted to, so just going into that first round (at world indoors), kind of having that memory in the back of my mind that it’s not fun to lose,” Lutkenhaus said. “That pain hurt pretty bad in Tokyo, so we’re going to remember that later in Poland and work off of it.”
Jasmine Moore added the women’s triple jump title to her long jump victory from Saturday, leaping 13.89 meters (45-7). Roger Steen won the men’s shot put with a throw of 21.81 meters (71-6¾).
