Results-Kenya’s Michael Temoi and Janeth Nyiva sweep Eurospin RomaOstia Half Marathon 2026

Kenya’s Michael Temoi and Janeth Nyiva Mutungi led double podium sweeps at the Eurospin RomaOstia Half Marathon 2026, with fast times, deep fields and full men’s and women’s results on March 1, 2026.

Kenyan runners produced a double podium sweep at the Eurospin RomaOstia Half Marathon on Sunday, underlining the East African nation’s dominance on one of Europe’s fastest road courses and delivering a clutch of personal bests in the Italian capital-to-coast race.

ROME – Kenya’s Michael Temoi and Janeth Nyiva Mutungi led clean sweeps of the men’s and women’s podiums at the Eurospin RomaOstia Half Marathon 2026 on Sunday, as their compatriots locked out the top three in both races at the World Athletics Label road event.

Temoi, 20, broke clear in the closing kilometres to win the men’s race in 58 minutes 00 seconds, a personal best, with fellow Kenyans James Kipkogei (58:39) and Peter Tuitoek (59:05) also setting lifetime marks to complete the podium.

Gideon Kiprop made it four Kenyans in the top four with 59:20, while Uganda’s Mande Bushendich was the first non-Kenyan across the line in fifth place, dipping under the one-hour barrier for the first time with 59:23.

The performance continued the tradition of fast times on the Roma-Ostia route, which carries a World Athletics label and is renowned for producing sub-60-minute results.

Behind the leading pack, Kenya’s depth was again evident as Simon Mwangi Waithira (1:00:09), John Ndirangu (1:00:38) and James Mwanzia Mutuku (1:01:16) all finished inside 62 minutes, with Ethiopia and Uganda providing the main resistance among the chasing group.

In the women’s race, Mutungi controlled the contest to win in 1:08:11, leading three Kenyan athletes under 70 minutes as she was followed home by Caren Chebet, who clocked a personal best of 1:09:22, and Catherine Peiyoy with 1:09:56, also a personal best.

Millicent Jelimo (1:11:15) and Phane Nyaboke Jairus (1:13:08, PB) completed a Kenyan top five, underlining the country’s dominance on a day when Italian athletes battled for the honours of top European finishers.

Italy’s Giuseppe Gerratana, a former European under-23 steeplechase silver medallist, placed 13th overall in the men’s field in 1:04:25 to lead the home charge, while Laura Biagetti took sixth in the women’s race in 1:13:55 as the leading European.

Further down the field, a deep domestic contingent took advantage of fast conditions to chase personal best marks, with athletes from Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, and Ukraine adding a strong European layer to the 2026 edition of the race.

Kenya’s lock on both podiums reinforced its status as the pre-eminent force in global road running, with RomaOstia again serving as an early-season gauge of form ahead of the spring half marathon and marathon circuit.
