Results – Yaroslava Mahuchikh Regains World Indoor Championships High Jump Title

TORUŃ (March 29) — Yaroslava Mahuchikh cleared 2.01 meters on her first attempt to reclaim the world indoor high jump title in Toruń, Poland, with Nicola Olyslagers, Angelina Topic and Yuliia Levchenko sharing the silver medal after all three failed to match her height.

TORUŃ, Poland — Yaroslava Mahuchikh reclaimed the women’s high jump title at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26 on Friday, four years after winning her first senior global title at the same event in Belgrade. The 24-year-old Ukrainian cleared 2.01 meters to collect her fourth global championship gold and erase the memory of a runner-up finish at the 2024 edition and a bronze at the outdoor World Championships in 2025.

The competition was tightly contested through 1.99m, where four athletes — world record-holder Mahuchikh, defending world champion Nicola Olyslagers of Australia, Serbian world bronze medalist Angelina Topic, and Ukraine’s Yuliia Levchenko — remained with clean scorecards. The bar then rose to 2.01m, and only Mahuchikh was able to clear it, doing so at the first time of asking. Her three challengers all failed their three attempts at the height and settled for a shared second place.

With the championship secured, Mahuchikh elected to push the bar to 2.06m in pursuit of a world indoor record. She did not succeed on any of her three attempts at that height, but the Olympic champion had already achieved the primary objective of her championships campaign.

Silver Split Three Ways

For only the second time in the history of the World Athletics Indoor Championships, the silver medal was shared among three athletes. Topic, who missed all three attempts at 2.01m, claimed her share of the podium on the strength of her 1.99m clearance, as did two-time defending champion Olyslagers and Levchenko — both of whom also posted season bests of 1.99m.

Poland’s Maria Żodzik finished fifth with 1.93m in front of a home crowd at the Arena Toruń, with Sweden’s Louise Ekman and Australia’s Eleanor Patterson also clearing that height to round out the top seven.

Hufnagel Falls Short

American Charity Hufnagel, who had arrived in Toruń undefeated in her previous five competitions this season, could only manage 1.89m and finished ninth. Germany’s Imke Onnen also cleared 1.89m to take eighth, one place ahead of Hufnagel on countback. Jamaica’s Lamara Distin and Montenegro’s Marija Vuković both cleared 1.85m to share 10th place.
