KINGSTON (March 6) — Several of Jamaica’s top junior athletes, including Shanoya Douglas and Riquelme Reid, were among the headliners on day one of the 2026 Jamaican Carifta Games Trials at the National Stadium in Kingston on Friday (6). Douglas and Reid produced a pair of scintillating performances to win the 100m titles.

Douglas, the bronze medallist in the World Under-20 200m in 2024, lowered her personal best from 11.28 to a spectacular 11.06 seconds (+1.5 m/s) to secure the U-20 girls’ title and eclipsed the Carifta Trials record of 11.08, set by Sabrina Dockery in 2025. The time is also faster than the 11.16 World Under-20 2026 leading performance by Australia’s Zara Hagan.
The 18-year-old Douglas pulled well clear of the chasing pack, which was led by Natrece East of Wolmer’s, who was second in 11.53. Renecia Edwards of Edwin Allen was third in 11.58, while Adora Campbell of St Jago finished fourth in 11.70.
Excelsior’s Riquelme Reid won the U-20 boys’ 100m title in 10.16, holding off a late charge from Sanjay Seymour of William Knibb, who clocked 10.20, and Nyron Wade of Kingston College, who recorded a personal best of 10.22. Khamani Gordon of Calabar was fourth in 10.40, just ahead of Tyreece Foreman of St George’s College, fifth in 10.41.
The 2026 Jamaican Carifta Games Trials continue on Saturday with several other featured events. Douglas is slated to compete in Heat 4 of the girls’ 200m, while Reid is scheduled for Heat 3 in the boys’ section.
