BRAZILIA, Brazil (April 12) — China topped the medal table at the Caixa World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships Brasilia ’26 on Sunday, April 12, finishing with six medals, including three golds, one silver, and two bronze. Japan placed second with five medals and Italy was third with eight medals, the most of any team overall.
Italy’s haul included two gold, five silver and one bronze medals, while Ecuador finished fourth with four medals. Peru and Ukraine were the other gold-medal winning teams, and 11 nations won at least one medal at the championship.
The host nation Brazil, ended the day with two bronze medals, while Spain, Australia, Ethiopia, and Mexico also reached the podium. The United States did not medal in the competition, but to be honest, not a lot of people picked the North Americans to outpace their more seasoned rivals.
Among the notable individual winners at the Caixa World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships Brasilia 26 was Peru’s Kimberly García, who produced a strong mid-race surge to win the women’s half marathon title with a time of 1:35:00 to top Mexico’s Alejandra Ortega.
Francesco Fortunato of Italy captured the men’s half marathon crown, clocking in at 1:27:25, Pu Huajia of China won the U20 men’s 10km title, while Japan’s Hayato Katsuki secured a commanding victory in the men’s marathon race walk in 3:04:58.
