EUGENE, Oregon, July 3 – American teenage sensation Cooper Lutkenhaus heads a deep men’s 800m field at the Prefontaine Classic 2026 on Friday night, with the 17-year-old arriving at Hayward Field as the form runner after a rapid rise through the Diamond League ranks this season.
Lutkenhaus, the reigning world indoor champion, won in Oslo in 1:42.08 on June 10 after also taking victory in Stockholm earlier in the month, and he will be chasing a third straight outdoor 800m win on home soil as one of the marquee names at the U.S. stop of the Wanda Diamond League.
