COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Agathe Guillemot of France surged past Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu in the closing meters Saturday to win the women’s Road Mile at the World Athletics Road Running Championships Copenhagen 26 in a world-leading 4 minutes, 22.74 seconds.
Hailu, the silver medalist in the event at the 2023 World Road Running Championships in Riga, controlled much of the race but could not hold off Guillemot’s late move. Hailu finished second in 4:24.35, with Kenya’s Mirriam Cherop third in 4:25.71. Guillemot lowered the 2026 world-leading mark of 4:23.25 set by Britain’s Jemma Reekie in Düsseldorf on Sept. 6, while moving up to fourth on the world all-time list. Reekie did not compete in Copenhagen.
