World champion Gudaf Tsegay smashed the women’s 5,000m world record at the Eugene Diamond League Final in Oregon on Sunday, winning in 14:00.21.
Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands unfortunately fell in the final meters of the women’s 10,000m at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest and was beaten by Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia.
Despite finishing third in the 5000m at Sunday’s London Diamond League meeting, Olympic champion Sifan Hassan was “super happy” about running a European record.
Gudaf Tsegay outsprinted Sifan Hassan to set a new PB of 14:12.29 in the women’s 5000m at the Wanda Diamond League in London. Alicia Monson set an American record with a 14:19.45 in a thrilling contest.
