Peres Jepchirchir Returns to 2025 Valencia Marathon to Face Course Record-Holder Beriso

The 2025 Valencia Marathon Trinidad Alfonso World Athletics Platinum Label road race brings together Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir and world marathon winner Amane Beriso on Sunday (7) in a strong women’s field that includes former London and New York Marathon champion Joyciline Jepkosgei.

Jepchirchir won the world marathon title in Tokyo three months ago. The Kenyan runner also claimed Olympic gold in 2021 in the same country. She set the Valencia course record in 2020 with a time of 2:17:16. That mark stood as her personal best until she ran 2:16:16 at the London Marathon last year.

Beriso holds one of the two most recent course records at Valencia. Both she and Jepchirchir have won world marathon titles in recent years and will lead the women’s race.

Keira D’Amato brings a sub-2:20 personal best to the race. The 41-year-old former US record-holder last broke 2:30 three years ago. She ran 2:35:57 at Boston earlier this year and hopes to run faster in Valencia.

Meanwhile, the likes of Jessica Stenson, Malindi Elmore, Charlotte Purdue, Emma Bates, Isobel Batt-Doyle, and Genevieve Gregson are also strong contenders for top five places on the women’s side.

The men’s race features course record-holder Sisay Lemma against Boston and Chicago winner John Kosgei. Lemma ran 2:01:48 in Valencia in 2023 to set the event record. That performance ranks fourth on the world all-time list.

Lemma won the Boston Marathon eight months before his last appearance in Valencia. He finished 10th in that race with a time of 2:04:59. The Ethiopian has not raced since last year’s Valencia Marathon.

Edward Cheserek, a multiple NCAA champion from Kenya, will compete in the men’s race. Former Japanese record-holder Suguru Osako and Italy’s Yemane Crippa also enter the field. First-time marathon runners Gemechu Dida and Patrick Mosin round out the top contenders.
