Tete Dijana and Gerda Steyn achieved remarkable record-breaking victories in the 96th Comrades Marathon 2023 on Sunday, June 11th, setting new records in their respective races. Steyn secured the women’s title, crossing the finish line with a record-breaking time of 5:13:58.

This remarkable achievement marked her second Comrades Marathon victory. Steyn’s exceptional performance shattered Frith van der Merwe’s 34-year-old record, improving upon it by nearly 10 minutes. The previous record, established in 1989, stood at 5:54:43.

Adele Broodryk, who finished third in last year’s race, displayed an impressive performance and secured second place this year, completing the marathon in 5:56:26. In the men’s race, Tete Dijana successfully defended his Comrades Marathon title on Sunday morning. With a surge from the 15-kilometer mark, he crossed the finish line in a record-breaking time of 5:13:58. Dijana’s achievement surpassed David Gatebe’s best time of 5:18:19, set in 2016, by over four minutes.
