BRASOV, Romania (Sept. 10) – In a monumental feat, Kenya’s Agnes Jebet Ngetich shattered the women-only 10km world record on Sunday at the Trunsylvania 10km, part of the Brasov Running Festival in Romania. Ngetich clocked an astonishing 29:24, rewriting history and setting a new benchmark in women’s long-distance running.

What was Agnes Jebet Ngetich 5k pace in the Trunsylvania 10km?

The 22-year-old Kenyan sensation was in a league of her own from the outset. She covered the first 5km in a swift 14:25, outpacing the previous women-only world record for that segment by four seconds.

By the halfway point, Ngetich had already built a 10-second lead over her closest competitor, fellow Kenyan Catherine Relin.

The Final Stretch

Navigating the looped course with precision, Ngetich passed the 6.5km mark in 18:54 and the 8.5km mark in 24:56. Her final time of 29:24 not only obliterated the previous record of 30:01 set by the late Agnes Tirop but also positioned her as the third-fastest woman in history over the 10km distance.

Setting the Bar High

Ngetich’s record-breaking run places her third on the all-time list, behind Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw, who clocked 29:14 and 29:19 in mixed races last year and earlier this year, respectively.

Meanwhile, another Kenyan runner, Weldon Langat won the men’s Trunsylvania 10km title, clocking a time of 27:05 to defeat a top-five field that Kenyan runners dominated.

Finishing behind Langat here in Brasov on Sunday was Amos Kurgat (KEN) with a time of 27:12, followed by his countrymen Edward Zakayo Pingua (27:14), Dennis Kibet Kitiyo (27:17) and Shadrack Kipchirchir (27:40).
