EUGENE, Ore. — Grant Fisher enters the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials as the favorite in the men’s 10,000m run, headlining a competitive field set to battle for three spots on the team to Paris 2024 later this summer.
Fisher, the American record holder, who finished fourth at last year’s national championships, comes in as the fastest U.S. athlete this season with a time of 26:52.04. The NIKE athlete, however, will face stiff competition from a talented group of runners.

Expected To Challenge Grant Fisher
Woody Kincaid, the defending national champion and 2021 Olympic Trials winner, enters as the third-fastest American this year with a 26:57.57 clocking. Northern Arizona’s Nico Young, who posted a personal best of 26:52.72 in March, aims to secure one of the top three spots in his first Olympic Trials.
Other contenders include former Kenyan representative Paul Chelimo, the 2016 Olympic silver medalist in the 5,000m who has a personal best of 27:12.73, and Conner Mantz, the 2020 and 2021 NCAA cross country champion, who owns a personal best time of 27:25.23.
The top three times by American runners this season were achieved at The Ten event in San Juan Capistrano, California, in March. I anticipate that the Olympic spots will be secured by runners posting sub-27 performances.
The race, scheduled for Friday evening at the iconic Hayward Field, in Eugene, Oregon, promises to be a thrilling showdown as America’s top distance runners vie for a chance to represent their country at the Olympics.
Important Note: The Olympic qualifying standard for the men’s 10,000m is 27:00.
Galen Rupp’s meeting record of 27:25.33 was set twelve years ago in June 2012.
