The women’s 100 meters final, scheduled for 10:50 p.m. ET, promises to be the highlight of Saturday’s action. World champion Sha’Carri Richardson, who also captured headlines at the last Olympic Trials in 2021, is expected to face off against rising star McKenzie Long, Melissa Jefferson, and Aleia Hobbs in a race that could redefine the American sprint landscape.
That’s the finals, though, but before that, these women must navigate through the semi-final round, which takes place 9:00 p.m.
Also in the evening, the women’s triple jump final at 9:20 p.m. ET and the men’s shot put final at 9:40 p.m. ET will set the stage for field event drama. Ryan Crouser, the world record holder and two-time Olympic champion, is favored in the shot put but faces stiff competition from Joe Kovacs.
The men’s 100 meters heats, featuring Noah Lyles, Fred Kerley, Courtney Lindsey, Christian Miller and Christian Coleman, will offer a glimpse of the sprint rivalry that could dominate the Olympics. Lyles, coming off a stellar 2023 season, aims to add the 100m to his 200m titles.
Meanwhile, the decathlon, a grueling two-day event, continues with the remaining five disciplines, concluding with the 1500 meters at 10:38 p.m. ET. This competition will begin at 1:00 p.m. and Heath Baldwin of Michigan State will start day 2 as the overnight leader with 4508 points.
In the women’s 400 meters, Alexis Holmes and Shamier Little lead the pack into the semi-finals, each hoping to move one step closer to stamping their ticket to Paris 2024.
Live coverage of the event will be available on Peacock from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET and 6:20 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET, with NBC broadcasting from 8:55 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET.
