The 2025 Honolulu Marathon takes place Sunday, December 14, starting at 5:00 AM on Ala Moana Boulevard in Honolulu, Hawaii. The race brings back both defending champions and adds several new elite athletes to the field.
How To Watch The 2025 Honolulu Marathon Live Stream
The Honolulu Marathon stands as one of the largest marathons in the United States, with over 35,000 runners expected. The race has no time limit and no qualifying standards required.
Runners start in darkness at 6:00 am local time, 11:00 am ET, with a fireworks display. The course passes through Waikiki Beach, downtown Honolulu, and around Diamond Head before finishing at Kapiolani Park near the beach.

Defending champion Yemane Haileselassie of Eritrea returns after winning the 2024 race. His personal best stands at 2:08:25. He also finished second at the 2025 Houston Marathon earlier this year.
Kenya’s Cynthia Limo comes back to defend her title as the two-time Honolulu Marathon champion. She holds a personal record of 2:25:10 and placed fourth at the 2024 New York City Half Marathon.
Men’s Elite Field
The men’s race features strong international competition. Tsegay Weldlibanos from Eritrea brings the fastest personal best in the field at 2:07:35. He won the 2025 Hapalua race and took the California International Marathon title in 2024.

Amanuel Mesel, also from Eritrea, has a personal best of 2:08:17 from Valencia in 2013. He finished third at both the 2025 Grandma’s Marathon and the 2020 Houston Marathon.
Kenya’s Patrick Ketter Kiplagat won the 2025 Enschede Marathon and finished third at the 2024 Porto Marathon. His personal record is 2:09:34.
Kamohelo Mofolo from Lesotho will run his first marathon in Honolulu. His half-marathon best time is 1:00:52.
American runners Ben Payne and John Raneri join the elite field. Payne has competed in three U.S. Olympic Trials, with a personal best of 2:15:46. Raneri will serve as a pacer and has a best time of 2:12:33.
Tesfu Tewelde of Eritrea placed second at the 2024 Twin Cities Marathon with a personal record of 2:10:21. Japan’s Daichi Kamino holds a best time of 2:09:34 and set the Hakone Ekiden fifth stage record in 2015.
Women’s Elite Field
Vibian Chepkurui of Kenya won the Vienna Marathon twice in 2021 and 2022. She also took the 2025 Bix 7 title and has a personal best of 2:20:59.
Eunice Chumba represents Bahrain with a personal record of 2:20:02. She finished third at the 2025 Nagoya Marathon and placed seventh in the marathon at the 2021 Olympic Games.
Calli Hauger-Thackery from the United Kingdom ranks as the second-fastest British marathoner ever. Her personal best is 2:21:24, and she finished third at the 2024 European Half Marathon Championships.
Japan’s Eri Suzuki and Eriko Asai both return to Honolulu. Suzuki has finished on the podium twice at this race in 2018 and 2022. Asai placed fifth in 2023. Both runners share a personal best of 2:41:42.
American athletes Allie Kieffer and Sara Wessen-Chang round out the women’s field. Kieffer finished second at the 2023 California International Marathon with a best time of 2:28:12. Wessen-Chang set her personal record of 2:58:18 at the Chicago Marathon in 2024.
