KINGSTON, Jamaica — The 2025 ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championships (Boys and Girls Champs 2025) kicked off Tuesday morning here at the National Stadium with the preliminary heats in the 1500m events across multiple age groups. The following are the results of the athletes who progress from the event on Day 1

In the Girls Class 3 (13-14) 1500m, Denique Palmer of Edwin Allen High School set the pace with a time of 4:59.33 in the first heat. Ashley Shepherd from Holmwood Technical followed closely, winning the second heat in 5:02.53.

Stepping up in class, the girls class 2 (15-16) saw Kevongaye Fowler of Edwin Allen dominating the first heat with a time of 4:50.12. Jovi Rose from Holmwood Technical claimed the second heat in 4:54.19.

The boys class 3 (10-13) event witnessed a thrilling performance by Julius Itubo of Kingston College, who set a new meet record with a time of 4:14.24 in the first heat. Jevaughn Tomlin from Bellefield High School won the second heat in 4:28.58.

In the boys class 2 (14-15) category, Thywaine Sterling of William Knibb Memorial led the pack with a time of 4:16.00 in the first heat, while Luke Plummer from Sydney Pagon Academy took the second heat in 4:18.54.

In the meantime, the discipline concluded with the Boys Class 1 (16-19) heats, which saw Ryan Achau of St. Jago High School posting the fastest time of the morning session, winning his heat in 4:06.10. Joel Morgan from Edwin Allen secured the other heat victory with a time of 4:09.82.

The top six finishers from each heat advanced to the next round.
