Des Moines, Iowa — The 115th Drake Relays 2025 will kick off Wednesday at Drake Stadium, featuring a strong field in both the heptathlon and decathlon events. This year’s lineup includes former champions and top international competitors, marking it as one of the most competitive in the history of the meet.

Till Steinforth, the reigning decathlon champion who finished 15th at the 2024 Olympics, will look to defend his title. A junior at Nebraska, Steinforth recently earned a bronze medal in the heptathlon at the 2025 World Indoor Championships, alongside strong performances in the indoor season. He scored 8,053 points to win at last year’s Drake Relays, becoming one of only three athletes to surpass 8,000 points in the event’s history.
Carter Morton, the 2023 champion from Northern Iowa, is also back following a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships. Jakob Tordsen, who captured the decathlon title in 2022, recently set a personal best of 7,523 points at the Jim Click Shootout.
According the to the release other notable entrants include Kansas State’s Emil Uhlin, who has a personal best of 7,618 points, and Zack Butcher, who recorded 7,046 points earlier this month while competing unattached. The decathlon begins at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday with the 100-meter dash and continues Thursday morning.
In the heptathlon, Jordan Gray Eggerth, a bronze medalist at the 2023 Pan-American Games, leads the field. Gray recorded a personal best of 5,903 points at the 2019 USA Championships and holds the American record in the women’s decathlon.
Other top contenders include Anneke Moersdorf from Oregon State, Minnesota State’s Miranda Lauvstad, Wisconsin junior Shaina Zinter, and New Zealand’s Kayla Goodwin. The heptathlon kicks off at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
