Canada held off Jamaica to win the mixed 4x100m relay gold medal at the World Athletics Relays Guangzhou 25 on Sunday. The Canadians entered the event as one of the title favorites and used smooth baton exchanges throughout the contest to secure the victory in a time of 40.30 seconds.
The event marked the first appearance of the mixed 4x100m relay at the World Athletics Relays, adding a new flavor to the competition at Guangdong Olympic Stadium here this weekend.
The victorious Canadian team included Sade McCreath, Marie-Éloise Leclair, Duan Asemota, and Eliezer Adjibi, who ran a 9.16-second split to help hold off Jamaica’s Bryan Levell, who ran 9.19, on the anchor leg.

Jamaica held a slight advantage entering the second exchange, but fell behind on the third leg and finished second with a time of 40.44 seconds. Great Britain completed the podium spots with a time of 40.88.
Krystal Sloley, who ran the second leg for Jamaica, ran the quickest split in the women’s category with a time of 10.21 seconds, while Adjibi’s 9.16 was the fastest among the men.
