Su Bingtian has retired from professional sprinting. The 36-year-old Chinese sprinter made the announcement after competing at the National Games of China on Thursday (20).

Su ran the first leg of the 4x100m relay for his home province Guangdong in what became his final race. He said he plans to continue promoting athletics and sport after stepping away from competition.

The sprinter holds Asian records in both the 60m and 100m. His 100m mark of 9.83 came in the semifinals at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021. He went on to finish sixth in the final at those Games.

His career included appearances at six World Championships, three Olympic Games, and four World Indoor Championships. He first competed at a global championship in Daegu in 2011.

At the continental level, Su won the Asian 100m title twice. He captured three Asian Games gold medals across the 100m and 4x100m relay.

In May, Su served as ambassador for the World Athletics Relays Guangzhou 25. He joined 100 schoolchildren from Guangzhou at a Kids’ Athletics event during the competition.
