Prefontaine Classic Women’s 100m: Melissa Jefferson-Wooden vs Shericka Jackson; Sha’Carri Richardson vs Tina Clayton

EUGENE, Ore. (July 4) – Sha’Carri Richardson, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Shericka Jackson headline a loaded women’s 100 metres heats draw on the second day of action at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, with the opening round already set to produce fast times at Hayward Field.

Richardson, the 2023 world champion and 2024 Prefontaine Classic winner, lines up in the first heat against Jamaica’s world silver medalist Tina Clayton, training partner Jonielle Smith, Britain’s Amy Hunt, and the current world leader, Adaejah Hodge of the British Virgin Islands, who has already clocked 10.63 seconds for the personal best this year.

The second heat brings together Jefferson-Wooden, the reigning world champion, and Jackson, the two-time world 200m champion, in a matchup that should sharpen the race from the start. Both sprinters have already posted respective times under 10.90 seconds this season, with Jackson clocking 10.81 seconds and Jefferson-Wooden going 10.84.

Olympic finalist Tia Clayton of Jamaica, European star sprinter and Briton Dina Asher-Smith, as well as Favour Ofili, Tamari Davis, Cambrea Sturgis, Jassani Carter and Jenna Prandini add more depth to a field that has medal contenders and sub-11-second runners throughout.

The top three finishers in each heat and the next three fastest advance to the final, with the women’s 100m heats scheduled for 12:32 p.m. local time at Hayward Field.
