Asafa Powell starts as Jamaica wins 4x100 at Penns

Asafa Powell ran a blistering first leg and Jamaica won the men's 4x100 metres event at the Penn Relays on Saturday.

Powell, a former 100m world record holder and the fastest man ever on a relay anchor leg, switched to lead off in the USA vs the World match up as the Jamaican team which also included Michael Frater, Nesta Carter and Steve Mullings ran a world leading 38.33 seconds.

"It was a good race," Powell said afterwards. "I felt very good and I did my best."

He added: "Over the years, my coach has been telling me that if I led off it would be a different race and it would be hard for people to catch us.

"I always been running the anchor and I just wanted to try something new and it went well." "The 200 is a lot of pain. I am not sure, but I am training for it."

The USA Red teams of Walter Dix, Wallace Spearmon, Trell Krimmons and MIke Rodgers was second in 38.43, while USA Blue, with 2004 Olympic champion Justin Gatlin running the first leg ran 38.66 for third place.
