Alana Reid runs 11.17, wins 100m Fuse Sprint in Japan

Jamaican junior sprinter Alana Reid emerged victorious in the women's 100 meter dash at the Fuse Sprint meeting in Tottori, Japan. This feat marked her first race since signing a professional contract and sets the stage for her participation in the upcoming Jamaica National Championships in July.

Reid, a World U20 Championships bronze medalist in the 200m last summer, showcased her exceptional talent again this season. The 2023 CARIFTA Games champion clocked a comfortable 11.44 seconds in her heat, securing her place in the final with the second-fastest time from the preliminary round.

The 18-year-old sprinter returned to dominate the final, outpacing the entire field in a record time of 11.17 seconds. Reid has a personal best of 10.92 seconds, clocked to win at Champs 2023 in March.

Among her competitors was Japan's three-time national champion Arisa Kimishim, who clocked 11.37secs to set a season-best in second place. Remi Tsuruta, another local athlete, ran 11.55secs for third place.

In the men's race, 19-year-old Ryota Suzuki ran a personal best of 10.17secs to take the victory. The event was a thrilling display of talent and competition, with athletes from around the world showcasing their skills.

As the 2023 season progresses, all eyes will be on Reid to see if she will make the senior team to the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August.
