Ole Miss athletes Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan and Jasmine Mitchell captured the men’s and women’s hammer throw titles, respectively, on the first day of the 2024 SEC Championship at the University of Florida’s James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, on Thursday.

Mitchell secured 10 points for the Rebels with a first-round throw of 68.06 meters (223 feet, 3 inches) in the women’s competition, and also recorded a mark of 67.28 meters in the third round. Her additional featured throws included 62.24 meters and 61.62 meters in the second and fifth rounds.

Georgia’s Stephanie Ratcliffe claimed the silver with a personal best of 67.68 meters, while another Ole Miss athlete, Jalani Davis took bronze with a throw of 66.79 meters.

On the men’s side, meanwhile, Robinson-O’Hagan won the gold with a throw of 70.17 meters (230 feet, 2 inches). After fouling on his first attempt, he are grouped to throw the winning mark in the second round.

Robinson-O’Hagan also had throws of 69.78 meters and 69.41 meters in subsequent rounds.

In the meantime, Ole Miss’s Jake Dalton secured silver with a personal best of 68.43 meters, and teammate Costen Campion placed fourth with 62.85 meters. The bronze went to William Gross IV of Florida, who threw 65.07 meters.

After two finals, Ole Miss leads the men’s standings with 24 points and the women’s standings with 20 points.
