Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo Shatters World Half Marathon Record in Barcelona: Top Results

Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda made history by setting a new world half-marathon record of 56:42 at the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks, a World Athletics Gold Label road race on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

The 24-year-old athlete's remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone in the sport, as he surpassed the previous record held by Yomif Kejelcha, which stood at 57:30. Kiplimo’s improvement of 48 seconds is the largest single enhancement in the men’s half-marathon record to date.

According to World Athletics, competing under optimal conditions of 13ºC and minimal wind, Kiplimo not only broke the 57-minute barrier for the first time in history, but he also set a world-best time of 39:47 for the 15km segment during his record-setting run.

Meanwhile, Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor of Kenya finished two minutes behind in distant second place with a time of 58:44, while third went to Samwel Nyamai Mailu of Kenya running a season-best, 59:40 for third place.
