Olympic 100-meter champion Julien Alfred of St. Lucia defeated Jamaica’s world 200-meter champion Shericka Jackson in the 300-meter race at the Miramar Invitational 2025 on Saturday, April 5, at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Florida.
Alfred, who has shown impressive form this season, posted a time of 36.05 seconds to edge out Jackson, who finished in 36.13 seconds. This marks Alfred’s second victory in 2025. Earlier this year, during the indoor season at The Track at New Balance in Boston, she clocked 36.16 seconds in the same event. The Saint Lucian sprinter is gearing up for the World Athletics Championships set for September and has already competed in five events this season.
For Jackson, this was her second race of the year following her season debut last month in Spanish Town, Jamaica, where she ran 7.14 seconds over 60 meters.
Ivory Coast’s Jessika Gbai secured third place with a time of 36.24 seconds, while Barbadian Sada Williams, a two-time World Athletics Championships bronze medalist in the 400 meters, finished fourth with a time of 36.49 seconds.
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Rusheen McDonald claimed victory in the men’s 300-meter race with an impressive time of 32.39 seconds. He narrowly defeated Great Britain’s Toby Harries, who clocked 32.47 seconds to take second place. Wendell Miller of the Bahamas won the first heat with a time of 33.45 seconds, earning him third place overall.
The Miramar Invitational continues to be a key stop on the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver series, drawing top athletes from around the globe to Florida for high-caliber competition.
