Star Sprinters Set to Light Up Prefontaine Classic 2025 Races

Kishane Thompson arrives in Oregon in excellent form. He recently shattered Usain Bolt’s stadium record at the Jamaican championships, clocking an impressive 9.75 seconds, this past weekend. This performance makes him a favorite in the men’s 100m.

Julien Alfred also comes in with strong results this year, having already run 10.75 and 10.89 seconds in the women’s race.

Thompson vs Trayvon Bromell

The men’s 100m field features several strong contenders. Trayvon Bromell of the USA, who held the world-leading time before Thompson’s recent run, will challenge the Jamaican. Ackeem Blake, also from Jamaica, secured third place at the recent Jamaican trials and is one to watch.

Former world champion Christian Coleman of the USA and Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes will also be on the starting line. Jeremiah Azu (GBR), Brandon Hicklin (USA), Lachlan Kennedy (AUS), and Bayanda Walaza (RSA) complete the competitive men’s field.

The women’s 100m promises to be equally thrilling. Olympic champion Julien Alfred is prime for another fast time, but she is expected to have lots of company. Among them is world champion and current world leader Melissa Jefferson-Wooden of the USA, who has a season’s best of 10.73 seconds, is ready to compete against Alfred.

World champion Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA will also test her form. She has only run once this season and has a season best of 11.47 seconds in Tokyo in May. Jamaican champion and two-time world junior champion Tina Clayton is another athlete expected to perform well, following her personal best of 10.81 seconds at the Jamaican trials.

Other notable athletes in the women’s 100m include Dina Asher-Smith (GBR), Maia McCoy (USA), Favour Ofili (NGR), Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith (CIV), and Twanisha Terry (USA).
