World Athletics Confirms Records for Duplantis, Zhang, Yan and Troscianka

World Athletics has officially confirmed four new world records, including Mondo Duplantis's latest pole vault mark and three youth achievements.
World Records Set By Mondo Duplantis
The Swedish star cleared 6.30m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on September 15, 2025. This added one centimeter to his previous world record of 6.29m from Budapest in August 2024.
Duplantis succeeded on his third and final try in Tokyo, the same city where he won his first Olympic gold medal in 2021. The clearance gave him his third straight world championship title and his eighth major international gold medal. It marked the 14th time Duplantis has broken the world pole vault record.
The competition showed remarkable quality throughout the field. Seven athletes cleared 5.90m or higher, which had never happened before in a single meet. One jumper cleared 5.95m but did not earn a medal.
Other Records That Were Rectified
World Athletics also rectified the record by China's Zhang Jiale, who threw 77.24m in the U20 hammer on August 2 at the Chinese Championships in Quzhou. The 18-year-old improved her own previous best of 75.14m and broke Finland's Silja Kosonen's mark of 73.43m from 2021.
Zhang reached her record distance in round three and also threw 76.15m in her final attempt. She later competed at the World Championships in Tokyo, where she earned bronze with a throw of 77.10m.
Poland's Hubert Troscianka scored 8514 points in the U20 decathlon at the European U20 Championships in Tampere on August 8. He became the first athlete ever to score more than 8500 points at the U20 level.
His total broke Germany's Niklas Kaul's previous mark of 8435 from 2017. Troscianka ran 46.21 in the 400m, setting a world U20 decathlon best for that event. He also threw 68.87m in the javelin, the best throw in any championship decathlon.
His other marks included 10.74 in the 100m, 7.26m in the long jump, 15.48m in the shot put, 1.94m in the high jump, 14.23 in the 110m hurdles, 43.36m in the discus, 4.80m in the pole vault and 4:28.59 in the 1500m.
Yan Ziyi, 17, threw 65.89m in the U20 javelin at the Chinese Championships in Quzhou on August 3. The throw improved her previous record by more than a meter. She had thrown 64.41m in Quzhou the previous September and 64.83m in Chengdu in March 2025.
