Ethiopia’s Yihunilign Adane and Waganesh Mekasha won the men’s and women’s Elite races in the 2023 Ottawa International Marathon – a World Athletics Label Elite Road Race meeting in Canada on Sunday, 28 May. Read more: Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon 2023 results; Kenyans sweep titles

The Elite women’s race went to Waganesh Mekasha, who battled through the tough conditions to win by almost three minutes, clocking a time of 2:24:47 to defeat Canada’s Malindi Elmore, who ran 2:27:44 and Melat Kejeta of Germany, who crossed the finish line at a time of 2:27:50 for third place.

Meanwhile, the Elite men’s race saw the top four finishers coming from Ethiopia. Yihunilign Adane crossed the finish line first in a time of 2:08:22, beating his compatriots Gebretsadik Abraha, who ran 2:09:13 for second place, and Abdi Ali Gelchu, who clocked 2:10:38 for third.
