Leo Neugebauer dominated the men’s Decathlon on his way to setting a new meeting record with 8,708 points at the Texas Relays 2024 at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field in Austin, on Thursday (28). He was winning the competition for the third straight season.
A year after tallying an impressive 8,478 points to win the contest in 2023, the Texas star returned to improve that mark by 230 points and totaled the third-best score in collegiate history, following another impressive day of competition on Day 2.
The German was only 128 points off his collegiate record of 8,836, which was achieved in 2023.

Starting the second day with an overnight score of 4,620 points, Neugebauer added 4,088 points to his tally, helped by a pair of event-winning performances in the pole vault with 5.10m and the discus throw with 51.50m.

Lee Walburn of Washington State, who was third after the first day of competition, finished in second place in the end with 7,694 points, while Denim Rogers, competing unattached, slipped from his bedtime second-place position to third place in the end with 7,687 points.
Meanwhile, like Leo Neugebauer, Ball State’s Jenelle Rogers maintained her overnight advantage to win the women’s Heptathlon, totaling a score of 5,825 points at the completion of the seven events.
She defeated Kaitlin Smith, competing unattached with 5,678 points, while Kristine Blazevica of Texas finished in third place with 5,662 points.
