Track and field sensation Sha’Carri Richardson recently faced a difficult situation when she was removed from an American Airlines flight after a verbal altercation with a flight attendant, she revealed on Saturday.
The incident, which took place on a recent vacation trip, was captured on video and posted to Richardson’s Instagram account. Watch the video here.
According to Richardson, the altercation began when the flight attendant asked her to end a phone call prior to takeoff. Sha’Carri claims that the flight attendant used a disrespectful tone and continued to lean over and look at her phone during the safety protocols, ultimately demanding that she show him her phone.
“Prior to the video this gentleman asked me to get off a cell phone call, I did,” Richardson wrote on Instagram.
In the video, the flight attendant can be heard demanding that Richardson stop recording, to which she responds, “You’re harassing me at this point, I think you should stop.”
She continued: “I stated to him I didn’t like the tone he used with me. Following that while standing in front of me doing the safety protocols he continued to lean over to look at my phone. He asked to see that my phones were in airplane more at this point. He demanded that me show him. Which I did in front of him.
“Y’all see him right? Y’all see him right? Y’all see him right? I’m sorry, it’s not me,” Richardson told the other passengers. “Talk to him.
“No ma’am. Do no talk to me like that. I’m an adult. Do not talk to me like that. Do not talk to me like that. Tell him to stop. If you do not know what’s going on, do not yell at me.”
Passengers can also be heard making various comments about the situation, with some attempting to intervene and others seeming to side with the airline employee. Watch another video here
Sha’Carri was eventually escorted off the plane, and some passengers applauded her removal. She later hinted at the possibility of pursuing legal action against the airline, citing not only the disrespect she received from the flight attendant, but also the lack of action from the captain to resolve the situation.
“Also the captain not doing anything to help the situation and this flight attendant has the applause when I exited the plane when I’m pretty serious the disrespect I received would not have happened if I was a one of them,” she added.
Sha’Carri Richardson is one of the USA’s leading female sprinters. The 22-year-old who has had an up-and-down career thus far, owns personal bests of 10.72 seconds for the 100m, 22.00 secs for the 200m and is ranked No. 7 on the all-time list in the straightaway dash.
