Norway’s distant star Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the Olympic champion, successfully clinched a national double in the 1500m and 5000m events at the 2024 Norwegian Championships, held on his home track at Sandnes Stadion this week.

The two-time world silver medalist in the 1500m dominated that event in Sandnes on Friday, finishing with a time of 3:34.03. Kristoffer Sagli secured second place, but trailed home Ingebrigtsen by more than 13 seconds with a time of 3:47.66.

The following day, Ingebrigtsen continued his winning streak by setting a championship record and season’s best in the 5000m with a time of 13:14.36. It was the second appearance over this discipline this season for the 23-year-old, following his victory at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Munich, Germany, earlier this month.

Meanwhile, world bronze medalist Narve Gilje Nordas closely followed home at the trials in second place, clocking 13:14.99. The top five finishers were rounded out by Awet Nftalem Kibrab with 13:24.25, Per Svela with 13:24.34, and Ferdinand Kvan Edman with 13:24.44.

With the European and national titles already secured this season, Ingebrigtsen now sets his sights on the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he will look to defend his 1500m crown and add to the two world championships 5000m gold medals he won in 2022 and 2023.

The eight-time European champion aims to continue to cement his legacy as one of the greatest middle-distance runners of his generation.
