American sprinter Tyson Gay believes 2011 will be a very fast one for a number of the world’s sprinters.
Gay, the silver medallist from the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany last summer, is bracing himself for a season in which he thinks more men will run fastest than 10-seconds over the 100 metres and below 20-seconds for the 200m – than has ever done before in a single season.
Gay is currently going through his preparation for the upcoming season where he is expected to feature against the likes of world record holder Usain Bolt and his fellow Jamaican countryman Asafa Powell in the world championships year.
But while those guys are expected to run fast every year, the American no.1 expects more sprinters to join the elite group of sub 10 and sub 20-secs athletes.
He said in the diary on the IAAF website: “More men will run sub 10 seconds in the 100m and sub 20 seconds in the 200m than ever before in one year.”
The likes of Jamaica’s Forsythe Mario, Trell Kimmons of USA and French star Christophe Lemaitre all broke 10-seconds this season for the first time, while Yohan Blake of Jamaica and USA’s Curtis Mitchell were impressive 19-seconds runners this year.
