UniversalSports.com will be offering LIVE and on-demand coverage of Day 1 of the 2011 Track & Field World Championships, which will see several top athletes in action.

The Women’s Marathon will kick start the event and it is one of the two finals that will be contested on the opening day. The other final being the women’s 10,000 metres.

In what is expected to be an Ethiopia v Kenya affair in the marathon run, Edna Kiplagat of Kenya will start the quickest among the runners, while 2009 bronze medal winner Aselefech Mergia will lead the Ethiopian squad.

Vivian Cheruiyot, the reigning World 5000m champion has decided to also step into the 10,000m battle and will face world-leader Sally Kipyego, also of Kenya, American Shalane Flanagan along with Meseret Defar of Ethiopia, who is the 2004 Olympic and 2007 World 5000m gold medal winner.

Also on the card are sprint double world record holder Usain Bolt, World 800m record holder David Rudisha, in addition to Allyson Felix, Sanya Richards-Ross and Americans Trey Hardee and Ashton Eaton, who contest the Decathlon.
