There was a major upset at the Jamaica High School National Championships on Saturday.
The shock came in the boys’ class II 200-metres dash, as overwhelming race favourite Jazeel Murphy was beaten into third place.
Murphy, one of the country’s brightest young stars, was seen as the one to beat in the build up to the championships and he looked the part when running 21.19seconds, the fastest of the semi-final races.
However, on Saturday the 16-year-old was relegated to third by Odean Skeen, who won in 21.40 and Delano Williams, who clocked 21.47.
Murphy ended third in 21.48secs.
He did not compete in the 100m dash, another race he was highly fancied to win.
