British sprinter Jeremiah Azu will look to rebound from his narrow season-opening defeat in Stockholm when he lines up at the ISTAF Indoor Düsseldorf on Saturday (24). The world and European indoor 60-meter champion headlines a stacked sprint card at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting inside the PSD Bank Dome.

Azu opened his 2026 campaign with a runner-up finish at the BAUHAUS-galan Indoor meeting in Sweden on Thursday, clocking 6.54 seconds behind compatriot Romell Glave in a photo-finish finish. Jamaica’s Olympic and world silver medallist Kishane Thompson followed in third.

Neither Glave nor Thompson will race in Germany, but Azu faces sharp local competition. The 24-year-old holds the best personal mark in the field — 6.49 seconds — and will test that form against a strong German contingent.
Home favorite Joshua Hartmann (6.53) looms as the main threat, joined by compatriots Aleksandar Askovic (6.56) and Lucas Ansah-Peprah (6.58), both proven sub-6.60 performers. Britain’s Eugene Amo-Dadzie also returns to the blocks with his 6.59 personal best.
In the women’s 60 meters, Jamaica’s Jonielle Smith chases a second straight European win after opening her season in Stockholm, where she posted an indoor lifetime best of 7.12 seconds, edging compatriot twins Tia and Tina Clayton.
Belgian record-holder Rani Rosius, twice a world indoor finalist, leads the pursuit, with Switzerland’s Géraldine Frey joining the season’s first major indoor clash among European sprinters.
Finland’s Reetta Hurske, the 2023 European indoor hurdles champion, headlines the women’s 60m hurdles against Ghana’s Evonne Britton and a quartet of Germans — Marlene Meier, Rosina Schneider, and Ricarda Lobe.
Lobe will also anchor the home challenge in the men’s hurdles, taking on Belgium’s Michael Obasuyi, a two-time world indoor finalist, and Dutchman Job Geerds.
Germany’s two-time world champion Malaika Mihambo makes her season debut in the women’s long jump, returning to the indoor runway she once dominated. The 31-year-old, who boasts a career-best 7.30m, faces the Netherlands’ Pauline Hondema and compatriot Laura Raquel Müller.
The schedule also features a strong women’s shot put field, where Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye leads a high-caliber lineup that includes Sweden’s Fanny Roos, Dutch star Jorinde van Klinken, Jamaica’s Danniel Thomas-Dodd, and American Jessica Ramsey.
